Celebration of Engineer's Day

Special Seminar Session on
Discovering the Exciting World of Engineering and Technology

Every year, September 15th is celebrated as 'Engineers Day' in India in honour of the greatest engineer and statesman the nation has ever seen, Sir M Vishweshwariah. Sir M V was born on September 15,1860. He was bestowed the highest civilian honour in India, Bharatha Rathna in 1955. He is a role model for all engineers for his brilliance, honesty and dedication to his job. Karnataka owes most of its industrial progress to this man.

Engineers day celebrated in India on 15th September. on the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Sir MokshagundamVisvesvaraya (1860-1965).

Internationally recognized for his genius in harnessing water resources, Sir M Visvesvaraya was responsible for successful design and construction of several river dams, bridges and implementing irrigation and drinking water schemes all over India.

He was called a wizard in engineering. He was also called the precursor of economic planning in India.

His learned discourse on economic planning in India entitled 'Planned Economy for India and Reconstructing India' was the first available document on the planning effort of the country and  it is still held as the parent source matter for economic planners.

Science and Engineering are complementing to each other. Science is about discovering the nature and natural phenomenon. Engineering is creating the artificial.

Engineering has been called the “invisible” or “stealth” profession.  Everything around you and that you use every day has been engineered in some way yet you may not see the engineers behind the scenes or know much about engineering.

Engineers use their imagination and analytical skills to invent, design, and build things that matter. They are team players with independent minds who turn ideas into reality. Many become licensed professional engineers in order to better protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public.  By dreaming up creative and practical solutions, engineers are changing the world all the time.

You have math and science classes and both are basic to engineering. But, engineers take math and science from paper and the lab to invent, design, and build things that matter. They are team players with independent minds who ask, “How can we develop a better recycling system to protect the environment, design a school that can withstand an earthquake, or create cutting-edge special effects for the movies?”

Gujarat Science City organizes a seminar on “Discovering Engineering” on 15th September 2011 to encourage and inspire the younger generation engineers as well as to increase public awareness and appreciation of the engineering profession and technology by emphasizing engineers' positive contributions to society.

About 150 budding engineering students of Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar are invited to participate in the seminar. Er. AnujSinha, Advisor to Department of Science & Technology, Government of India and Director, VigyanPrasar will interact and inspire the young engineering talent to Innovate for Our Future.

Er. RameshchandraBhindi, Honorary Secretary, Institution of Engineers, Gujarat State Centre and Dr. RupeshVasani, Director, SAL Institute of Engineering and Technology and Dean of Faculties of Gujarat Technology University will grace the occasion and to interact with the young engineers in the programme.

There are many challenges facing our world that require immediate engineering solutions. At the same time, we are challenged to prepare the next generation of talent by helping to remove the social, education and economic barriers that deter young students from engineering and technology education and careers.

Let’s do what we can to inspire this next generation of innovators and engineers, no matter where they come from.
