Seminar on Technological literacy for the future


Gujarat Science City (GSC), working under the aegis of the Department of Science & Technology, Government of Gujarat, is organizing various student activities and awareness programmes on 11th May 2013 to mark the celebration of National Technology Day. The programme has been organized as part of its endeavour to promote science and technology education and communication among children and community.

National Technology Day signifies the glorious achievements of Indian science and technology advancements and has been celebrated all over the country after the successful Pokharan II Test on 11th May 1998. It is an occasion to take stock of India and technology as of today and explore what we should be doing if India has to emerge as a technological power.

This is an occasion to recognize excellence in science and technology for the socio-economic upliftment of our motherland. We are proud of the contributions made by our scientists and engineers who work or have been working to make our country proud.

Technology is the application of Science and it drives the future. On this occasion, Gujarat Science City and Gujarat Council on Science & Technology (GUJCOST) are organizing a series of programmes and outreach activities for the school and college students, teachers and the common public in Science City and Community Science Centers. A seminar on Technology literacy for future has been organized which will be attended by 200 students of engineering and basic science colleges of Gujarat. A special hands-on demonstration on Robotics has been organized at the Amphitheater.

Shri S. J. Haider, IAS, Secretary, Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of Gujarat has given has consent to inaugurate the programme and celebration at 10.30 hrs in the Auditorium I in Science City. 

Dr. V. S. Palsule, Director, Development and Educational Communication Unit (DECU) of Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and Dr. Shishir Deshpande, Project Director, ITER-India, Institute of Plasma Research, Gandhinagar will be the Guests of Honour and will interact with the young students about the theme.

Prof. K. N. Joshipura, Sr. Professor, S. P. University Technology will conduct an interactive session on for technology of the future while Dr. Anil K Ray, Professor at DAIICT Gandhinagar will guide the participants about technological literacy which would be a new basic for future.

The public is keeping abreast with the technology changes. The DST Gujarat believes in a strong base of science and engineering research that provides a crucial foundation for a vibrant programme of technology development. The Department has given priority to the development of technologies, which address the basic needs of the population; make the industries competitive and make the state economically and scientifically strong. 

We invite one and all to be a part of this celebration and to predict the future with science and technology.
